While online blogging, participating in music forums, discussions and sending emails, I leave my Affiliate Link Code as my signature in emails, music forums and post banners on my blogs and websites, never spamming of course. Essentially, I leave a footprint when online, so when I'm offline my efforts are still working for me.

There's a lot more information, but I wanted to give you a quick idea for the ARMusic Service, so you know what it's about. For full details click here and become and affiliate.

Here are some ways to market online once you become an affiliate.

Billion Dollar Music Business Label

Here are some thoughts on what to do with a budget to start a billion dollar music business label.

Hire the best and brightest minds in technology, accounting and legal matters. I'd hire a master mind group of elders who have were cutting edge in their glory days who wanted to give the music business another run. I'd hire a team of young bucks who were futuristic in their thinking. Then we'd search for the best new talent that hasn't been discovered, give a time horizon for grooming them for new millennium stardom.

The rest of the plan requires a retainer (deposit). The plan is laid out and air tight. Additionally, it wouldn't cost a billion to do it. It could be pulled off for about a one ($1,000,000) to three ($3,000,000) million give or take a few pounds. If anyone is interested and has access to the funding please contact me off line.

In the meantime you may want to download Industry Pimping to ensure you're not being pimped in the music business. Music producers, beat makers and composers will want to download and read Lease Beats Make Money.

Music Producer Get Money

Below is my response about an emerging music producers frustration with the music business. Perhaps there's something you may take away from this Get Music Money Blog.

For sake of conversation there are two time frames for becoming independently wealthy one is in the short term the other is in the long term. If one starts early anywhere between 18 to 30 years old and socks away enough money ($50 to $200 a month) month after month in a no-load index mutual fund they can pretty much assure that they'll hit millionaire status at some age around 55 or so, give or take a few years depending on when they started investing and how much they invested monthly mind you.

Then there's a number of ways to becoming independently wealthy that stretch the imagination. For time sake let's agree that at the other end of the stick in order to become independently wealthy you can win the lotto or lottery.

You have a far greater chance of becoming wealthy from investing on a constant basis than you do hitting it big by playing the lottery.

SOLUTION:

Find those things in the music business that are akin to becoming a commercial success that would mirror putting away small amounts of money to becoming independently wealthy over time. For instance, why not find one to three hot artist that you sign to a development or production deal. Create their sound and help them become a success, as the music producer you will shine, because they are shining. Some of the most notable music producers in Hip Hop and R&B have used this formula and created independent wealth. Some of them include Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Diddy, DJ Toomp, Jermaine Dupri, RZA, Quincy Jones, Bryan M. Cox and others. Perhaps you could use this proven method to increase your chances for commercial success while going after that major label placement in the short term. One of them is bound to work.

As far as people calling you back. It's been my experience that everybody in the music business is running around doing this and doing that. If people see how they can make money off you or with you they'll go the extra mile. If people like you they'll go the extra mile. If people aren't sure how to tell you no, because you have a friendship (or so we think LOL) they often want call you back. I think this is a function of human nature or inexperience saying no as an adult. :-)

Who Pays Songwriters & Music Producers?

The information below is from Allen Johnston -the Music Specialists. Allen has over 30+ years experience in the music business and regularly speaks at music conferences, seminars and workshops around the world. Additionally, he is one of the original featured speakers at the Radio Music Conference. Allen produces a regular email newsletter with vital information and updates on the music business. To join his email list visit asha.com.

"I have been a member of ALL three societies with multiple publishing houses and one thing I have found to be consistent. You need to make friends at whatever society you join. Your friend can assist you in placing songs, finding work and even helping you license. Unfortunately I have found very few songwriters, producers or artists that take the time to be friends with someone. Most assume that the Performing Rights Society should automactically work for the writer or publisher. Have you noticed that the SESAC people are being called out by name? That is not a mistake, they know there writers, publishers and friends.

All 3 societies pay identical, knowing who signs the checks helps. Knowing how to work the society infrastructure to make yourself stand out in a positive way will greatly increase your revenue stream." Allen Johnston

Seed Money for Music Business

Most emerging music labels, recording artists, music managers, songwriters and music producers think that if the only had someone to give them seed money for the music business then their dreams will come to past. It has been my experience that money isn't the driving force, but lack of proper planning and daily execution of that plan.

Write down the following then put the amount of money you spend every month next to them.

MONTHLY EXPENSES:

Rent/Mortgage
Grocery/Food Bill
Utilities
Car Note
Car Insurance
Fuel Prices
Cable Bill
Phone Bill
Cell Phone
Voice Mail
Cable Bill
Internet Bill
Shopping Clothes
Dry Cleaning
Beauty Shop
Barber Shop
Child Care
Eating Out
Entertainment
Student Loans
Credit Card Payments
Retirement Accounts
Health Insurance
Dental Insurance

MONTHLY INCOME:

JOB -just over broke
Stock Dividends
Business Income
Rental Income

Ask yourself do you need to spend the money you are currently spending on a monthly basis? Perhaps the seed money for your music business that you need may be found in the consumer goods that you spend on a monthly basis. Perhaps if you reduce your consuming spending, pay down your debt and seek other ways to increase your monthly cash flow you'll have greater access to the money you need to get your music business off the ground.

For greater details on money matters download a Music Industry Connection Book and read the Creating Wealth Section. Additionally, the Make Money Online Goldmine Blog has information that may aid you in increasing your monthly income.

The seed money for your music business may be close at hand if only you take a moment to look in house before going to others.

Music Business Movie Money

Are you making music business movie money yet? You should be!
Have you attended any independent film festivals yet? You could
Have you contacted independent film makers on myspace and youtube? You could!

There are a number of revenue streams with music being associated with a film. Some of the potential royalties come from music being used in the film (film scoring) -the amount of money paid depends on the commercial success of the artist prior to the song being used, how much of the song will be used, if the song was previously released and if so what type of commercial success did the song garner, where in the movie will the song be used, will the song be an original composition or that of which was previously released.

Other considerations include if the music is being used in the movie trailer or will the song be a song with lyrics or is it an instrumental.

The PRO's -performance rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC) typically don't pay these royalties unless the music is being publicly, broadcast in the case of the movie trailer being played on tv, aired on radio and/or being shown in movie theaters. The good thing is because there are so many ways to get paid that the recording artist, musicians, composers and music publishing companies have a great opportunity to participate in various revenue streams.

For further details I'd suggest contacting Allen Johnston or JaWar for one-on-one consulting/coaching. You'll also want to download the Music Industry Connection Book Series for additional ways to get paid in the music business.

Get Money for Your Music?

Below is my response to a forum on the Studio Exposed Site asking -How do you get people to buy and listen to your music?

Let's do a quick case study of Hip Hop Music Producers who have name recognition and longevity in the music business.

Dr. Dre, Timbaland(sp), J.D., P. Diddy, etc. have all had 10+ years as music producers. Each of them developed an artist or two. These recording artist helped to showcase the producers talent. The point here is that you may want to find you a new recording artist that you can truly work with and develop. You want to move beyond that of a beat maker to that of a music producer/songwriter.

Next you'll want to start to go the independent route. Given that your artist has start quality and a great sound people will take notice. From there its' only a matter of time before someone says who did the track. That's your opening.

In both the Los Angeles Music Industry Connection and the Atlanta Music Industry Connection Ebooks I give specific examples of how a music producers could market their music and build their brands.

Make Money on Myspace

SESAC -performing rights organization in the U.S. has a relationship with Myspace wherein whenever one of their members songs are played in someone else's Myspace Music Player their member receives a royalty.

Here's How It Works:

Kim is a singer/songwriter and has hear songs available for download in her Myspace Music Player. Barry downloads (transfers) Kim's song into his Myspace Music Player. Whenever someone plays Kim's song from Barry's Myspace Music Player, Kim is due a performance royalty from SESAC. Myspace pays SESAC a licensing fee and SESAC pays that money or a portion of that money to its' songwriter, music composer (producer) and music publishing members.

The really cool thing about this situation is you don't have to be signed to a major record label, publishing company or have major distribution. You do have to be a member of SESAC, complete the necessary paperwork, have a Myspace Profile (page) and market and promote your music online.

For details on a performance rights organization download the:
The money you get may be small at first, but remember the concept of picking up the pennies and you could build a stable sum of money over the years.

Music Producer Teddy Riley May Be Broke

The Virginian-Pilot newspaper is reporting that famed producer Teddy Riley has fallen on hard times and is selling his Virginia Beach recording studio to help get himself out of debt.

According to the newspaper, the architect of New Jack Swing owes $1 million to several creditors and is hoping money from the sale of his Future Records Recording Studio will satisfy the bill. But that's not likely to happen.

The one-story building was considered state-of-the-art when Riley purchased it for $3 million in 1991, but the equipment is now thought to be out of date. The house was reportedly assessed at only $460,000. Click here to read full article.
